Nursing Services

The practice nurse and HCA's are trained to carry out extensive tests and procedures such as:

  • dressing wounds
  • changing bandages
  • ear syringing
  • blood tests
  • routine blood pressure checks
  • 24 hr ambulatory blood pressure
  • ECG
  • 48 hour - seven day ECG event recording
  • Warfarin clinic

NHS Health Checks

NHS health checks are being offered to people aged between 40-74 once every five years. The check should take about 20-30 minutes and is based on straightforward questions and measurements such as age, sex, family history, height, weight and blood pressure.  

There will also be a simple blood test to measure your cholesterol level. Following the check you will receive free personalised advice about your health risk assessment and what you can do to stay healthy.

Child Immunisations and Health Checks

When the Health Visitor visits new parents she will advise them to make an appointment at the surgery for the child's six week development check, which will be during normal surgery hours. Before and after six weeks baby health checks are carried out by the Health Visitor. For advice from the Health Visitor phone 01304 873590

Primary immunisations are started at age eight weeks. The practice will remind parents to make appointments with the practice nurse; if notification is not received, parents are advised to contact the surgery. Unscheduled or missed immunisations may be obtained during normal surgery hours.

Minor Surgery

Minor surgery services such as joint injections, excision of lumps and cysts, etc. are carried out in the surgery. Please ask at reception for more information and how to book an appointment.

Cervical Screening

If you are a female between 25 and 64 then your doctor and nurse strongly recommend that you have a regular cervical screening Test. These tests are carried out routinely by the practice nurse every three years between the ages of 25 - 49, then every five years between the ages of 50 - 64. 

If you do not wish to have the cervical smear test, please inform the surgery by completing a "Refusal Form", available from the reception. In the future if you wish to have the test the offer will remain open to you but you will not be contacted for five years.

Family Planning and Contraceptive Services

A comprehensive range of family planning services are offered, including IUCD (Coil) fittings and contraception implant and removals. Advice is also offered on menopausal problems, breast examination and well women checks.

vaccination

Adult Vaccinations

ACWY - Meningitis - If you are aged over 18 and under 25 and going off to university or college and have not had a vaccination for Meningitis in school please make an appointment to see the Practice Nurse

MMR - Measles, Mumps, Ruebella  - If you are aged between 16-25 and have not had two vaccinations for MMR please make an appointment to see the Practice Nurse.

Tetanus/Diptheria/Polio  - Once you have had five injections you are covered for life. If you have never had a Tetanus injection it is important for you to have a course of 3 injections followed by 2 boosters. Please make an appointment at reception.

Pneumonia and Flu vaccinations - Influenza is responsible for may deaths and much disability each year. We have an active programme of annual Influenza vaccination and the doctors strongly recommend vaccination for those most at risk.

Please contact the surgery in mid September for your flu injection.
